Nexar One suits drivers who want road video and the option to add cabin, rear, and remote features. Its strongest buying question is not resolution alone. Decide which views you need, whether fixed internal storage works for you, and whether local access is enough without an LTE plan.

## What does Nexar One record?

Nexar One records the road through its main camera, with an optional interior-facing camera for cabin footage. Nexar specifies [up to 4K for the road view and 720p infrared video for the interior view](https://help.getnexar.com/en/articles/8484927-nexar-one-technical-specifications?ref=dashcampilot.com).

The road lens has a 140-degree diagonal field of view. The cabin lens has a 160-degree diagonal field of view. Those figures describe coverage, not guaranteed plate or face readability in every scene.

| View | What it covers | Buyer check |
| ----- | -------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Road | Traffic ahead | Confirm the recording quality selected in the app. |
| Cabin | People and activity inside | Confirm the interior module is included in your configuration. |
| Rear | Traffic behind | Confirm rear camera compatibility, power, and mounting needs. |

Nexar's recording settings offer [different road and cabin quality combinations](https://help.getnexar.com/en/articles/9218136-setting-up-nexar-one-s-recording-resolution?ref=dashcampilot.com). The default setting may be lower than the camera's maximum. Check the saved file after setup, rather than judging the camera by the live app preview.

## Is the rear camera the same as the cabin camera?

No. The cabin module faces into the vehicle, while Nexar's separate rearview camera watches behind it. A driver concerned about a rear-end collision needs rear coverage, not just a cabin view.

![Cabin camera points inward while a separate rear camera points behind a sedan](https://dashcampilot.com/content/images/2026/09/coverage-2.webp)

*Cabin view points inward at passengers; rear view points outward behind the vehicle.*

[The rearview camera works with Nexar One](https://help.getnexar.com/en/articles/10096103-frequently-asked-questions-faqs-about-the-nexar-rearview-camera?ref=dashcampilot.com) but does not operate as a standalone camera. Nexar says it needs the compatible front system and its own power arrangement. Check where your vehicle has a usable rear power outlet before ordering.

For a rideshare driver, cabin recording may be useful, subject to local audio and privacy rules. For a driver focused on traffic events, road and rear views may be a better match. Adding every view also means more footage to inspect and more equipment to install.

## What works without an LTE plan?

![Local camera Wi-Fi connects to a nearby phone while optional cellular service connects remotely](https://dashcampilot.com/content/images/2026/09/connectivity-1.webp)

*Local Wi-Fi links the camera to a nearby phone; an optional cellular route reaches a distant phone.*

Nexar's [Basic experience keeps local camera access available through Wi-Fi](https://help.getnexar.com/en/articles/11064304-nexar-connected-dash-cam-s-basic-and-premium-lte-protection-plan-experience?ref=dashcampilot.com). You can connect your phone to the camera, review footage on its memory, and download a needed clip.

[Remote live streaming and live parking alerts belong to the LTE Protection Plan](https://help.getnexar.com/en/articles/11064304-nexar-connected-dash-cam-s-basic-and-premium-lte-protection-plan-experience?ref=dashcampilot.com). The +Connectivity module alone does not make those paid features active. Confirm the exact plan and available features during checkout and again in Nexar Connect.

| Need | Basic local experience | LTE plan experience |
| --------------------------------------- | ------------------------------ | --------------------------------------------- |
| Review footage near the car | Camera Wi-Fi and Direct Access | Also available |
| Watch the camera from elsewhere | No remote connection | Requires compatible module and active plan |
| Receive immediate remote parking alerts | Not included | Requires active plan and working connectivity |

Cellular coverage, camera power, and account status can affect remote access. Do not treat a paid plan as a guarantee that every incident will be captured or delivered instantly.

## Where are full drives saved?

Full drives are stored in Nexar One's built-in memory. [That memory is fixed when the camera is purchased and is not a user-upgradable SD card slot](https://help.getnexar.com/en/articles/8484927-nexar-one-technical-specifications?ref=dashcampilot.com). When the memory fills, new recording overwrites older drives.

This matters if you leave an incident on the camera while continuing to drive. Save the relevant clip to your phone promptly, then keep a separate copy if it may be needed later.

Nexar Connect may show time-lapse previews for drives. For full footage still on the camera, [use Direct Access in the app and connect through the camera's Wi-Fi](https://help.getnexar.com/en/articles/14090790-nexar-one-transition-from-nexar-classic-to-nexar-connect?ref=dashcampilot.com). A preview is not the same as the full-quality file.

> Choose the storage configuration at purchase, then test how to retrieve a full clip before you need one urgently.

## Is 4K worth using on Nexar One?

Use the highest road setting when detail matters more than recording duration. Nexar's own recording guide says [its 4K setting consumes substantially more internal storage than 1080p](https://help.getnexar.com/en/articles/9218136-setting-up-nexar-one-s-recording-resolution?ref=dashcampilot.com).

Higher resolution can preserve more image detail, but motion, glare, distance, and lighting still limit what a clip shows. It cannot promise readable plates at night or in every collision.

If you make long drives and rarely offload footage, a lower setting may leave more history before overwrite. Record a short trip in your chosen mode, download it, and check whether the result meets your needs.

## How does parking mode work?

Nexar describes parking mode as a low-power state that wakes for an impact or unusual movement. Its Nexar One guide describes [a 30-second incident clip after a trigger](https://help.getnexar.com/en/articles/9043556-setting-up-parking-mode-for-nexar-one?ref=dashcampilot.com).

Parking recording and remote notification are different functions. An active LTE plan is required for real-time parking incident alerts. Power and cellular reception also matter.

Nexar says [OBD and hardwire power are more reliable for parking use](https://help.getnexar.com/en/articles/10368575-nexar-connected-dash-cams-power-sources?ref=dashcampilot.com) than relying on a battery that can run down. Use Nexar-supported accessories and check your vehicle's port behavior. If a hardwire installation involves fuse selection or unfamiliar trim routing, use a qualified installer.

Before depending on [parking footage](https://dashcampilot.com/what-is-parking-mode-on-a-dash-cam/), pair the camera, enable the relevant setting, and follow Nexar's test procedure. Check that an event appears where you expect it in the app.

## How do you set up Nexar One?

[Nexar One now uses the Nexar Connect app](https://help.getnexar.com/en/articles/14090790-nexar-one-transition-from-nexar-classic-to-nexar-connect?ref=dashcampilot.com). Older instructions for Nexar Classic can lead a new owner down the wrong path.

1. Confirm current phone and region compatibility with Nexar Connect.
2. Attach the +Connectivity module and optional cabin camera in the positions Nexar specifies.
3. Attach the magnetic mount and connect power to the mount's power port.
4. Pair the powered camera in Nexar Connect with the phone's required wireless and location settings enabled.
5. Check the road and optional cabin views before fixing the mount to the glass.
6. Route the cable safely, away from controls and airbag paths.
7. Record a short drive and download a full-quality clip to confirm the complete workflow.

[Nexar's setup guide supports an OBD power adapter, a vehicle power outlet, or a hardwire kit](https://help.getnexar.com/en/articles/8484875-setting-up-your-nexar-one?ref=dashcampilot.com), depending on the purchased configuration. Check your actual package before planning the [cable route](https://dashcampilot.com/how-to-install-dash-cam-front-and-rear/).

## Who should buy Nexar One, and who should skip it?

Consider Nexar One if you value a high-resolution road option, optional cabin or rear coverage, and app-based footage retrieval. The LTE features may appeal if remote checks and alerts are worth an ongoing plan to you.

Skip it if [removable storage](https://dashcampilot.com/best-sd-card-for-dash-cam/) is essential, you do not want to pair a phone, or you expect remote features with no subscription. A simpler local-recording camera may suit those preferences better.

The decision is easiest in this order: choose the views, confirm vehicle power, choose fixed storage, then decide whether the LTE plan adds enough value. Verify the current bundle contents and terms before buying.
